Spring into action – why now is the ideal time to move house

06 May 2016 Spring into action – why now is the ideal time to move house

Spring is one of the best times of year to move home and make a fresh start in a new property.

The season represents new beginnings, making it an ideal time to start planning the next chapter in your life. The lighter nights and warmer weather bring optimism and energy, inspiring people to look for their dream home so if your property has been on the market for a while, you may well notice an increase in viewings as summer approaches.

If you are moving house in in spring and summer, make sure you book a professional removal firm like Andrew Porter Ltd as soon as you can, as it is a busy time of year and dates may fill up quickly.

Here are three ways to embrace spring and use the season to your advantage:

 1.      Spring cleaning

After being cooped up indoors over the winter, spring is a fantastic time to throw open your windows and let a bit of air, light and space back into your home. One of the best ways to take advantage of your new-found energy is to embrace the age-old tradition of spring cleaning. Combatting the clutter will make your home easier to sell as potential buyers are more likely to see themselves living in your property if it is clean and tidy.

Consider putting some of your furniture or personal items into storage while your home is on the market so your property seems more spacious and less full of stuff. It is also a good idea to get rid of anything you don’t really love or need before you move to your new home. Not only will it save you time when it comes to packing and unpacking but it will help you make sure your new home stays clutter-free (at least for a while).

Top tip: If you have a lot of stuff to get rid of, hire a skip as it will be easier to stay motivated if you don’t have to keep making trips to the tip.

 2.      Get growing

Planting flowers in tubs and borders and adding hanging baskets and floral arrangements to your property will make your home seem more cheerful and appealing to potential buyers. By getting your hands dirty and doing a bit of gardening, you will show your home in its best light and you might even enjoy yourself too. If you move into your new home during spring, it is a great time to add your own personal touches to the garden as there are plenty of bedding plants which can go straight into the soil and are already in bloom, giving the exterior of your property an instant makeover.

Top Tip: If you are short on outdoor space, invest in a couple of window boxes or tubs to give your home a splash of colour

 3.      Car boot sales

If you can stomach getting up early at the weekend, car boot sales are a great way to get rid of some of your unwanted possessions and possibly even pick up some treasures for your new home at a bargain price. Car boot sales are mainly held during spring and summer as the lighter mornings mean you can set up nice and early and the weather will hopefully be warm and dry enough for shoppers to enjoy browsing through your belongings. Selling at a car boot sale will not only help you reduce the amount you have to pack, it is a good way of raising some extra funds to go towards getting settled in your new home.

Top Tip: Do your research on which sales in your area are the most popular and get there early to secure a good pitch
