Could 2017 be the right year to move house

04 Jan 2017 Could 2017 be the right year to move house

For many people the New Year is time for a fresh start.

It is not unusual to use the first few days of January to look at your life and work out how it can be changed for the better. For many people, this could include moving to a new property or taking steps to become a homeowner for the first time.

If you already own a home then January is a good time to put it on the market. People often put their house-hunting on hold over Christmas but the New Year period gets potential buyers thinking about the future.

So could 2017 be the right year for you to move home?

According to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the demand for houses in the coming year will be higher than the supply, which is good news for those looking to sell their properties. And house prices are expected to rise by around three per cent during 2017.

The value of homes in East Anglia, the West Midlands and the North West are expected to rise at a higher than average rate.

One of the top New Year’s resolutions people make is to achieve a better work-life balance. Moving home can make this more achievable, whether it is downsizing to a smaller property to make your mortgage repayments more affordable or relocating somewhere closer to your place of work to reduce the amount of time you spend commuting.

If you’re planning on starting a family or expanding your existing brood in 2017 then now could be an ideal time to look for something larger to give you the space you need. Alternatively, you could be looking for a change of scenery and this year could be the right opportunity to choose a home in your dream location.
