Planning a library move? Book us in!

12 Oct 2017 Planning a library move? Book us in!

This week is Libraries Week 2017 (9-14 October), so it seems like the perfect opportunity to mention our successful specialist library relocation work we’ve been carrying out across the UK for many years.

We are experienced in all varieties of library relocation services, including school and university libraries, public libraries and medical libraries, and have tackled plenty of interesting and unique and interesting challenges along the way.

So if your organisation or business is looking at a library move, give us a call to discuss your individual requirements – we’re sure we can meet your needs.

We do our research

At Andrew Porter Limited, we take pride in our attention to detail and recognise that no two jobs are the same. As library relocation specialists we can provide individual book and shelf-to-shelf relocations, as well as professional, secure handling of special and rare collections.

A great example of this is our work to relocate around 25km of books from storage back to the refurbished Liverpool Central Library following its £50m upgrade. This involved rare and valuable items including the £5m Audubon’s “Birds of America”, kept under close guard in secure transportation.

More than just books

We also recognise that there’s much more to a library move than just the books and materials. Libraries often play an invaluable role in their institution, and such work takes special consideration. As part of our project management of all library moves, we take into account the likelihood that we are working in listed buildings and ensure that the fabric and fixtures of the libraries themselves are not damaged during the relocation process.

We always go the extra mile to do as much as we can to ensure a smooth transition.   In Bristol, we moved five kilometres of books to the Central Library’s new fifth-floor location in the B Bond warehouse, without disturbing school visits and without unloading our vehicles at times when children were arriving or leaving their nearby school.

We also had to use alternative and less convenient loading points because the ideal removals vehicles for the job would not fit under a low access bridge near the site.  The move took 12 months of planning and consultation to ensure the very best outcome for everyone involved.

In Preston, we successfully stored and returned 430,000 books and 14,000 metres of shelving from UCLan’s central library during its refurbishment. As part of the project, our system allowed UCLan the ability to retrieve any item in the event of an ‘emergency’ request.

We also worked with the university to create a temporary library facility over a working weekend and Bank Holiday – allowing students vital access to limited stock immediately prior to exams.

Customer care and the ‘extra mile’

At Andrew Porter Ltd, we take pride in our attention to detail and high standards of customer service, working closely with our clients to ensure the highest quality move every time, tailored specifically to their individual needs.

We can offer off-site storage facilities, specialist insurance and extensive buildings protection to give you complete peace of mind. We can even help dispose of unwanted equipment and fittings which could generate revenue to offset the cost of your move, and we can also help to sustainably dispose of redundant library furniture and equipment in line with your environmental policies.
