Self storage – a solution for all seasons

04 Apr 2018 Self storage – a solution for all seasons

As the seasons change, so do your household priorities, and the Easter break is the perfect time to plan out how to keep a tidy home for the year ahead.

During the summer, you are likely to want to get out the garden furniture and outdoor toys while in the winter months, you will be reaching for extra blankets and woolly jumpers. Seasonal storage can help free up your cupboards, attic and garage at home so you have more space for the things you use every day.

Andrew Porter Limited’s Self Store allows you to access your belongings whenever you need them and they will be kept safe, dry and secure. And as you only need to give a week’s notice, you are not tied into any long term contracts.

Here are five seasonal things you might want to consider putting into self storage:

  1. Outdoor furniture

Leaving garden furniture outside during winter can cause it to become weather damaged and it is often too bulky to store easily at home. Putting your table, chairs, sun loungers and barbecues into storage as soon as the weather becomes too cold to sit outside will help keep them in excellent condition and avoid your garage or shed being filled to the brim for months at a time.

  1. Garden toys

If you have young children, you probably have a whole pile of large toys which don’t get used over the winter. While some large pieces will need to be kept in the garden all year round, others would be much better suited to going into storage. These include small slides and climbing frames, sandpits, water tables, ride-on toys, paddling pools and ball pits.

  1. Winter wardrobe

If you have limited wardrobe space, it can really help to have separate clothes for spring/summer and autumn/winter. Warm winter clothes in particular can take up a lot of space, especially coats and jumpers. Putting items into storage will free up space in your home and you’ll feel like you’ve been on a shopping spree when you get them out again at the start of the new season.

Extra blankets and throws can also be tidied away for when the cold weather creeps back.

  1. Christmas decorations

Save yourself the stress of trying to fit all your Christmas decorations into the loft by putting them into storage instead. From your Christmas trees and baubles to large outdoor lights and wreaths, you can safely store them ready for the start of the festive season.

  1. Sports equipment

Certain types of sports equipment may only be in use for a few months a year leaving you looking for somewhere suitable to keep it safe. Self storage is ideal for winter sports equipment and clothing and items like skis, snowboards and sledges. It can also be a good place to store large items which won’t get much use when the weather is colder, for example jetskis, canoes, kayaks, trampolines, bikes and camping equipment.
