How to plan your summer move

06 Jul 2018 How to plan your summer move

When it comes to moving house, summer is the busiest time of year.

Data from Compare My Move shows that 29% of all house moves in the UK take place during the summer months with August the most popular of all.

One of the reasons many people choose to relocate during the summer is that the weather is less unpredictable and there are more hours of daylight.

Parents with school-age children often prefer to complete their house move during the summer holidays to minimise disruption. This is particularly key if children will be going to a new school as a move during July and August means they can start at the beginning of the academic year in September.

If you are planning to move house this summer, here are our top tips:

  1. Book your removal crew early

As summer is such a busy time of year, removal companies often get booked up weeks in advance. Do your research and choose which removal firm you want to use as soon as you can. Andrew Porter Ltd will send a surveyor round to your home to give you a personalised quote and talk you through the services available. Once you have a moving date, don’t delay. One of your first priorities should be booking your removal crew. If you leave it to the last minute, there is a risk that the reputable firms operating in your area may be fully booked.

  1. Get rid of anything you don’t need to move

Use your move as an opportunity to declutter and get rid of all those things you no longer want or need. Spend the weeks leading up the big day going through your cupboards, loft, garage and shed. Prioritise the things that matter to you most. The fewer boxes you have, the easier and more straightforward your move will be and the easier it will be to find a home for everything at your destination.

  1. Organise care for children or pets

If you have children or pets, make sure you put a plan in place for exactly where they will be during moving day and how they will be travelling to your new home. In many cases, it may well be easier to arrange someone to look after your children and animals while the move takes place.

  1. Do your research

Andrew Porter Ltd’s website is packed full of helpful hints designed to make your life easier as you prepare for your house move. Head to our advice centre for tips on everything from packing like a professional and keeping your clothes crease-free to protecting your sofa and keeping your valuables safe from damage. 1. Don’t feel you have to do everything yourself

Moving house is widely recognised as one of the most stressful things you can do but it doesn’t need to be. Drafting in expert help where you need it can take some of the pressure off and leave you free to relax and enjoy the summer weather. Andrew Porter offers a full packing service so you don’t have to lift a finger on moving day. Alternatively, if you prefer, we can provide you with all the packing materials you need to do the job yourself. If you are not moving from one home to another on the same day, you may want to consider putting all your items into storage to make life easier.
