We are delighted to announce that we have expanded our senior management team in a restructure designed to further improve our customer experience.
Des Downie has been appointed as home delivery manager and Christian Worsley as retail logistics manager.
With his appointment Des continues his lifelong career in the furniture industry, having most recently worked for 16 years at Morris Furniture in Glasgow, before the firm was bought out last year. As operations manager and then general manager at Morris, part of Des’ role was to create greater efficiency with the firm’s transport fleet, for which he appointed Andrew Porter Limited as an outsourced logistics partner, working with the company for eight years.
In his new role with Andrew Porter Limited, Des’ focus will be to develop systems and staff in order to maximise delivery efficiency and enhance customer satisfaction, as well as managing stock control.
Christian’s previous management and operations experience stands him in good stead for his role managing Andrew Porter Limited’s retail deliveries, which includes ongoing stock management and growth planning on behalf of a range of customers.
He commented: “My main focus is, along with Des, to keep close track of all stock coming into and going out of the warehouse, and ensure regular checks so we know exactly where all products are located. With 300,000 sq ft of warehousing and 10,000 pallet spaces this is a huge job and one it is vital to keep on top of. I’ll also be looking for other ways to add value for our customers and further improve our service provision for retail delivery.”
Des described his new role as a ‘perfect fit’.
“When I was contacted about this new position I was excited by the role of home delivery manager and the challenge that lay ahead,” he said.
“Along with my operational experience I bring with me experience of being a customer of Andrew Porter Limited over many years. This gives me a unique starting point to make the necessary changes to ensure Andrew Porters Limited is 100% focused on ensuring we deliver a first class delivery experience for all our home delivery customers. We all know what it’s like to be a customer awaiting a delivery and little things can make a huge difference to that experience.
“In my short time at Andrew Porter Limited we have increased the visibility of orders being routed and I’m currently integrating new handheld PDAs with the system to make our whole delivery process faster and smoother for both our customers and consumers.”
Managing director, Tim Aspey, said the restructuring of the furniture logistics department with an additional layer of management would result in a more customer-focused approach for the business.
“Furniture logistics is a fast-paced industry and one which requires close attention to detail at every stage of the process,” he said.
“We have every confidence that Des and Christian have the skills and experience to take our customer offering to the next level, maintaining our industry-leading success rate as our customer base and workload grow.”
Andrew Porter Limited carries out 3,500 home and retail deliveries every month throughout the UK and Ireland.
